A DAY AT HOME- 24x30"

Inspiration: 

As a kid, home used to bore me to death! I wanted to visit my friend Kimberly, I wanted to climb the trees outside, I wanted to travel far away (to my grandparent's home, mind you- to catch tadpoles). I wanted to leave for college, that trip to Europe or Africa. I wanted to go out into the world and BECOME someone! And then one day the world was pulled from beneath my feet in my late twenties, and what I longed for and missed most wasn't traveling, or adventures, but the familiarity of myself. I missed the ant beds in my front yard, I missed talking to boys in the sunroom- walking in circles as the cord of our landline wrapped around my ankles. I missed how easy it was to wake up and enjoy pancakes or cartoons or a little time at my piano. Nothing had changed, and yet, everything had changed!! Sometimes life gets pulled from beneath our feet, and we need home- the feeing of it, the memory of it, the safety and familiarity of it. "A Day at Home" was inspired by that feeling of return and rest, of homecoming and healing. I hope it encourages you to remember that no matter how far we might wander or how far life might seem to take us from it, home is always waiting for us. 

Details: 

This is a 24x30" mixed media painting of acrylic, oil, oil stick, and pencil on 1.5" gallery wrapped, cotton canvas.  All of the edges have been painted a neutral color, and the piece has two layers of Gamvar varnish, protecting it from UV light, dust, and every day life. For ongoing care, the painting may be cleaned with a damp cloth and gentle soap as needed.
