 Inspiration:

When I first started painting, I was hoping to pass the time of single parenthood and life without a partner. I was hoping for a time not here yet. When I met Bastien, I hoped for a time when I would know for sure he was the right man for me to marry. When in France visiting Bastien after 13 months of waiting, he proposed, but it was SO HARD to enjoy because I knew I’d have to wait months before I could see him again. In the time we lived apart, I prayed for the time to pass quickly, because I was hoping to leave my full time work for something slower paced and more aligned with my values When he moved in and we started life as a family, I changed jobs and couldn’t wait for the season when we would be blended and get into a new family rhythm. As we got into a rhythm, I felt restless with the quiet of a part time job, and wrestled with feeling directionless. I returned to my paints and hoped for a day when I could be an artist everyday vs. some days. Do you see it? It’s so easy in every season to hope for the next! To be so concerned about the next step you lose sight of the one you’re in. That’s not how I want to live life….overlooking today for hope of tomorrow, always living in fast forward, never living in the present. I’ve learned over this year to settle into whatever day I wake up to. To enjoy the waiting rooms, and the middle ground as a destination vs. a “pass through" on my way to the next season. I painted this piece as a reminder to be here, now, wherever you and I may be

Details:

This is a 12x12" mixed media painting of acrylic, oil, oil stick, and pencil on 1.5" gallery wrapped, cotton canvas.  All of the edges have been painted a neutral color, and the piece has two layers of Gamvar varnish, protecting it from UV light, dust, and every day life. For ongoing care, the painting may be cleaned with a damp cloth and gentle soap as needed.
