SAINT JOHN SITS ON THE HILL- 30x40"
SAINT JOHN SITS ON THE HILL- 30x40"
Inspiration:
The Saint-Jean-l’Evangeliste (Saint John the Evangelist) church in Ouveillan was built in the Romanesque style during the 11-12th centuries, and literally rests as one of the highest points in Ouveillan (overlooking miles of green vineyards). Of course the building is beautiful, but what I love most is the way it sits there after all of these years, the center of a small town where my husband’s parents live. So many have come and gone, and still- there it is. Year after year, century after century- a constant reminder of another time and people I’ve never met (but greatly appreciate) all because someone decided to pick up a stone. Life is short, we haven’t all the time in the world, and while what we do today often feels insignificant and small, it’s what we do with who we are that is often left behind. I hope this painting reminds you to pick up a rock, a pencil, a paintbrush, a telescope…as ordinary as it may seem...and dare to leave something behind.
