WE'RE ALMOST HOME- 36x48"

Inspiration:

There's something about home isn't there? The way it smells, and the way it feels to be surrounded by your loved ones, favorite coffee cup, sheets of music, books and things- you’re little big life. It's so easy to miss the magic just under our nose- the blessings on our shelves, in our cabinets, buzzing around the living room...the loud banging of the kids, the bark of the dog, the pesky way that one window leaks. It's so easy to miss it!  When I lost most everything in my late twenties, I realized just how much I missed those simple, ordinary moments. I realized how precious and extraordinary they are. I also realized that home wasn't just a building, but this internal place where we feel safe, and known, and loved.  When my world crumbled, so did that internal sense of feeling "at home." But I bought flowers every Friday at Trader Joes, and I took Henry to the zoo, I learned to garden, and I picked up a paint brush, and little by little, home found me again. It didn't happen all at once, but moment by moment, and not in BIG moments, but in the little ones where I chose to keep going, to keep trusting, to keep shuffling along in faith that those little steps could carry me somewhere good. Home was never really about the roof over your head, but the sense of peace and belonging in your heart, and it's always just one shuffle, one gardening project, one prayer, one book, one willing-to-try-again away. 

Details: 

This is a 36x48" mixed media painting of acrylic, oil, oil stick, and pencil on 1.5" gallery wrapped, cotton canvas.  All of the edges have been painted a neutral color, and the piece has two layers of Gamvar varnish, protecting it from UV light, dust, and every day life. For ongoing care, the painting may be cleaned with a damp cloth and gentle soap as needed.

I currently ship standard to the continental US only.  Each painting is shipped out of my studio in Birmingham, AL within 2 weeks of the order date.
